Dear Friends,
Greetings from the picturesque Omkoi mountains of Northern Thailand! As we write this week's newsletter, we find ourselves nestled inside our humble yellow tent at the children's home, brimming with dreams and aspirations for a brighter future.
Among our dreams is the vision of a small bug-proof modern accommodation, a place where we can store warm clothes and have a sanctuary of our own to cook and focus on how best to aid our friends in the mountains. Our hearts are set on creating a haven that not only caters to their immediate needs but also fosters a nurturing environment for their growth and development.
In a remarkable twist of fate during Christmas time of 2022, we were able to assist in purchasing the neighboring mountain. The previous owner had been problematic, and the KFC Foundation saw the potential of transforming this land into a coffee farm. Moreover, this acquisition paved the way for a future learning center and accommodations for generous donors, esteemed board members, and valued contributors. Hope radiated within us as we imagined the incredible possibilities that lay ahead.
However, our excitement was soon met with confusion when we learned that excavation had already begun on the newly acquired mountain. Although this project seemed premature given the pressing need for a functional kitchen and bathrooms, as well as the reduced reliance on food donations this year, a glimmer of anticipation danced in our eyes. The excavation truck was in the area, and we discovered that payment would not be required until the end of the year. The unexpected turn of events left us awestruck.
Our emotions ran high as we arrived this afternoon, and what we witnessed surpassed our wildest imaginations. The transformative power of unity and determination was on full display. The two short videos below capture the raw essence of my excitement and enthusiasm.
Despite this exhilarating development, we recognize that building on this new land remains a distant dream. Our primary focus must be on securing funding for the much-needed kitchen and bathroom facilities, a project expertly designed by architects whom we had the privilege of bringing up here just a few weeks ago. But amidst the challenges that lie ahead, we must remember our purpose—an unwavering commitment to assisting those who are unaware of their need for help.
Our goal is to uplift children from the clutches of poverty and provide them with endless opportunities. We understand that from a management perspective, it may be difficult to grasp the importance and effectiveness of learning English. The disconnection is palpable when we discuss this matter through translation. The key lies in helping them understand how and why this skill will shape their future. It is through building relationships, listening to the guidance of a higher power, and showering these 75 children with essential supplies, nourishment, and love that we aim to bridge this gap of understanding.
As we continue on this extraordinary mission, we remain steadfast in our dedication. The path ahead may be strewn with challenges, but with every passing day, we come closer to realizing our shared vision. Together, hand in hand, we strive to make a lasting impact, touching lives and illuminating futures.
