In the captivating northern region of Thailand, a group of dedicated individuals has embarked on a remarkable expedition to make a difference in the lives of young adults and children. Water For Life, an Australian Foundation, has set its roots in this land, offering a source of hope through education and self-improvement.
Both Fai and I were fortunate to be introduced to this extraordinary initiative led by the passionate couple, Abi and Sam. Water For Life focuses on teaching a wide range of essential skills to Thai adults between the ages of 18 to 30, including English, Computing, Life Skills, Bible class, Becoming a Barista, First Aid, and Community Service. Their mission is clear: to empower the youth of this region with knowledge and skills that can transform their lives.
Upon our first encounter, we couldn't help but wonder about the motivations behind this foundation's work. Were they solely driven by religious teachings? What were the expectations of their generous donors? As forward and direct individuals, we decided to seek answers to these questions.
To our pleasant surprise, we discovered that while Sam and Abi are Christian and do offer Bible classes, their primary objective extends beyond religious teachings. For the past decade, they have selflessly devoted their time to aiding and supporting children and young adults across various countries as volunteers. This revelation showcased the genuine spirit of altruism that transcends cultural boundaries.
We also came to realize the stark contrast between Australian and American cultures in terms of giving. Australians have a strong tradition of volunteering, while Americans often lean towards charitable contributions. This distinction made their efforts even more admirable.
On our second visit, we had the privilege of observing their classes in action and touring the facilities where students stay overnight. Getting to know Sam on a more personal level reaffirmed our belief that this collaboration could be the perfect match. The Kostro Foundation has a vast network of villages that can greatly benefit from the resources and expertise offered by Water For Life. The only missing piece was a robust recruitment process, a challenge we were eager to help address.
In a world often plagued by darkness and uncertainty, it's incredibly heartening to witness people like Abi and Sam, who selflessly dedicate their lives to making a positive impact. Their commitment to uplifting the lives of others through education and empowerment serves as a shining example, reminding us that goodness and compassion can prevail, even in the face of adversity.
The partnership between The Kostro Foundation and Water For Life promises a brighter future for the less fortunate children and young adults of Northern Thailand, a testament to the power of collaboration and shared vision.
Together, we are creating a source of hope, illuminating the path of learning and hope for those who need it most.
